Dear doctor, you have been prescribed a

HAPPY VALVENTINE'S DAY*

When it comes to heart valve disease, you are your patients’ first line of defense.
With “Screen. Detect. Act.” as your mantra, your expert care is paving the way for a heart valve healthy future.

But despite your best efforts, 3 out of 4 people know nothing about this important part of the heart. While millions of patients are impacted by heart valve disease, this number is expected to double, and then triple, in the next few decades, as the country’s aging population continues to climb. To help drive awareness and foster education, Edwards Lifesciences has started the Valventine’s Day initiative.

A Promise We All Can Make

Encourage your patients to make a promise of their own and schedule regular heart valve screenings, especially if they’re 65 or older.

Facts to Take to Heart

Approximately 1 in 10 Americans aged 65 and over have moderate or severe heart valve disease.

Women with severe aortic stenosis, also known as heart valve failure, tend to be more symptomatic than men yet are diagnosed at later ages. A delayed diagnosis can lead to progression and have devastating consequences, including greater mortality.

1 in 10 symptomatic patients with heart valve failure can die within 5 weeks while awaiting treatment. Timing is of the utmost importance.

The likelihood of receiving an appropriate echocardiogram is significantly reduced for Black patients, women, older patients, and patients receiving Medicaid.

Hear This

A missed heart murmur can have deadly implications for patients with heart valve disease. What’s more, patients with undetected heart valve disease may not recognize or report their symptoms.

REMEMBER: Screen. Detect. Act.

Start screening your patients beginning at age 65—if you catch heart valve disease early, you can help stop it from becoming fatal. For more on early detection, visit:
